  • Role: Community Associate is the primary point of contact for the community and acts as the “face” of WorkInProgress (the startup hub) reporting into the General Manager of Work In Progress
  • Key Responsibilities: Membership Management; Marketing; Community Engagement; Event Management; Reception
  • Requirements: Dynamic personality that enjoy engaging with people; Very organised with good project / event management skills; Highly Tech savvy
  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday 8am – 6pm, occasional weekend and evening work will be required
  • Location: Woodstock Exchange Building, Woodstock, Cape Town
  • Salary: in the order for R12,500 pm depending on education/experience
  • Start: asap, full time



Goals and Objectives

Support the Community Management team to achieve the following:

  • Create a welcoming and collaborative community environment amongst our members through events and building relationships between members
  • Ensure that your building is fully operational and processes are running smoothly
  • Drive growth and promotion of WorkInProgress -provided service offerings
  • Maintain company systems with accurate and current information
  • Take direction from the GM to support the Community Team as necessary

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Greeting /Point of Contact for all people entering and leaving WorkInProgress
  • Be the first and last point of contact for your building
  • Cover the front desk during business hours
  • Greet and check-in member guests
  • Greet people who come in for tours, track walk-ins, schedule tours, and send confirmation emails
  • Answer “walk-up” member and guest questions or refer enquirer to additional resources
  • Mail and Package responsibilities as needed
  • Create accurate reports as requested
  • Celebrate member birthdays and maintain member birthday calender

Membership Management

  • Manage member onboarding and offboarding
  • Maintain member CRM and company systems with accurate data
  • Create good relationships with all members and client whilst still having a professional approach
  • Prepare and distribute member welcome gifts


  • Prepare newsletter
  • Make posters for events
  • Advertise events online
  • Prepare and distribute promotional materials to guests/potential members
  • Collect content for social media and work on having regular and consistent content with a social media calendar
  • Ensure online literature about the coworking space and event space is accurate and listed on all relevant sites
  • Keep up to date with industry newsletters


  • Diary management of external event booking and communicate with bookers
  • Ordering of food and drink
  • Organise and promote member events and public events as part of WIP’s event program
  • Set-up and breakdown of events
  • Attend networking events
  • Manage the AV for all events and confidently be able to trouble shoot issues

Building Operations and Management

  • Assist with move-ins and move-outs;
  • Assist with building operations and maintenance to ensure highest level of member experience
  • Contact contractors for any issues and see issues through to successful completion
  • Ensuring the building is clean and well kept
  • Maintain a stocktake and order equipment and stock for the office
  • Ensure equipment is always available for members in the space
  • Open and close space as per the open and closing processes and ensure a clean and fresh space daily


Experience and Requirements

  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills and fluent in English
  • Exceptional organisational and multitasking skills
  • Proficient in computer skills in both Apple and Microsoft software
  • Be a systems and processes driven person
  • Demonstrate integrity, dependability, responsibility, accountability, self-awareness, work ethic, and empathy
  • Passion for entrepreneurial communities
  • Passion and understanding for WIP’s mission and values
  • Customer service and/or sales experience a plus

Qualifying Criteria:

  • Minimum Education: NQF 4 (Gr12 / NCV4 / N3)
  • Education Categories: Any relevant field of study
  • SA Work Eligibility Required: Yes
  • Location: Only candidates currently living in Cape Town
